Confluence is content collaboration software that changes how

modern teams work

Whether you're just preparing to come aboard, or you've been administering a site for a while now,

we want your experience with Confluence to be smooth sailing.

One of the best ways to keep your Confluence site on course is to upgrade regularly.

Join us on a customer voyage through Confluence...user or administrator,

we've all felt the sting of a lost draft. We're here to set you on the right course,

so you can be successful no matter what storms come your way.

User Improvements

Collaborative editing (release 6.0)

"I use Confluence every day to record our teams' projects. I have to coordinate with different teams and time zones to make edits one

at a time!"

Whether you're in the same room, or on a different continent, speed up the draft and review processes by working together in real time. Watch your teams' edits live with no delays or need to hit "Update".

Once you and your team are done editing, you can:

  • publish (or update if the page has previously been published) to make everyone's changes visible
  • close the editor and keep everyone's work to finish later
  • close the editor and discard everyone's changes

Invite to edit (release 6.2)

I'm working on a page and I need my teammates to contribute, but I'm not ready to publish the page and share it.

Working on a page and could use some help? You can invite people into the editor by name, email address or even invite a whole group to an unpublished page. They'll get a notification to take them straight into the editor. You can invite people to a draft, before you've published, or to pages with unpublished changes.

Resolve permission roadblocks faster (release 6.2)

I'm inviting my users to edit a page, but that doesn't automatically grant them access to edit that page!

If you're invited to edit a page that has edit restrictions, you can now request access.

If you're invited to edit a page, but don't have Add (edit) permission in that space, we'll give you a link to a list of space admins so you know who to contact.

Recently worked on (release 6.4)

I work on multiple pages a day, and there is no easy way for me to access my work in progress, especially pages which have edits waiting to be published.

All too often we start updating an existing page, but don't quite get around to publishing the changes. These changes then lay unfinished and forgotten. Not anymore, a handy unpublished changes lozenge now appears next to the page in your Recently worked on and when viewing the page, to remind you about your unfinished work.

It's now even easier to locate your work in progress, so you can finish it and move on. Access your recently worked on items from the profile menu (1), as well as from the dashboard (2).

Table resizing (release 5.10)

I want more control

over the width and distribution of my Confluence tables.

Get your table columns under control once and for all with our new resizing options. Drag column borders to resize them and make your table look the way you want. For even more control you can pick a table mode from the table toolbar. Responsive adjusts the width to fit the page viewer's browser window, while fixed width keeps the exact width you set, regardless of the size of the browser window.

Copy (and delete) page hierarchies (release 6.0)

I want to quick start a new project by copying all the pages related to my last project, but

I have to copy each page and manually move it to another parent

page or space.

By popular demand, you can now copy a page and all its child pages in one easy process. This lets you duplicate existing content, kick off new projects with the perfect pro-forma page hierarchy, or take a snapshot of important pages. Whether you create a copy in the same space or a different space, we give you the tools you need to modify page titles on the fly and control what's included in your new pages.

Need to clean up old content or quickly scrap the copied hierarchies you just made? Never fear, when deleting a page you now have the option to delete just the current page, or to delete the page and all its child pages.

Email threading in more places (release 6.5)

As a customer with a busy Confluence site,

I get a lot of notifications. Sometimes it can be hard to sift through and find the ones most

relevant to me.

Seeing email notifications in one thread or conversation can make keeping up with your Confluence activity much easier. We've improved Confluence's email threading so that page edits, like and comment notifications are grouped together.

Some notifications, such as sharing a page, mentions, requesting access to a page, or recommended update emails aren't grouped, to remain prominent in your inbox.

Confluence now supports email threading for all major Email clients:

  • Apple Mail 10.3
  • Outlook 2011
  • GMail
  • Google Inbox

Admin Improvements

Audit Log (release 5.10)

As an administrator tasked with compliance,

I need to be able to see what changes have taken place in the system by a specific user, at what time, and who gave them access.

The audit log allows administrators to look back at changes that have been made in your site. This is useful when you need to troubleshoot a problem or if you need to keep a record of important events, such as changes to global permissions.

  1. Filter it: dig into the log by keyword or by time
  2. More control: export the whole log or change how long to keep events
  3. Get detailed: see the details of each change

Manage Space Watchers (release 5.10)

As a global admin or a space admin, I need to be able to add or remove space watchers to ensure our new team members are equipped with relevant notifications

from the start.

Now, space admins can add and remove space watchers. Previously space admins could only manage watchers for individual pages, not a whole space.

Team Improvements

Language Packs (release 6.3)

Our teams in Europe and Asia don't always feel at home in Confluence, and want to use Confluence in their preferred language.

Administrators can define a default language for your Confluence site. Note that individual users can select a language preference for their session. On top of the existing language packs, we've now added the following language packs right out of the box:

  • Chinese
  • Finnish
  • Italian
  • Norwegian
  • Romanian
  • Estonian
  • Icelandic
  • Slovenian

Playbook blueprints (release 6.1)

It feels like my team needs more organization and structure around the work we do. I like the idea of running my teams like Atlassian, but honestly I have no idea where to start.

For Atlassian, the mission to unleash the potential in every team starts at home. We've developed a playbook that changed the way our teams work. If you like the sound of the Atlassian Team Playbook but are not sure how to get your team started, the Team Playbook blueprints are here to help. Each blueprint links back to the Team Playbook website for more information on how to complete the play:

  • Health Monitor
  • DACI Decision
  • Experience Canvas
  • Project Poster

Whether you're focused on stability or experience,
